Wonderfully played by Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer, Elio and Oliver (or Oliver and Elio) take us back to the dreamy daze of falling in love for the first time as they spend summer of ‘83 in northern Italy’s beautiful countryside. This smooth relationship drama makes a statement by going deep into what’s going on between the lovers and leaves Elio’s coming out story on a second level, elegantly making it evident that who we choose to love doesn’t have to be a matter of crisis. Luca Guadagnino masters every aspect of the cinematic language as an auteur while staying close and friendly to general audience with this adaptation from the homonymous novel by André Aciman.

Academy Nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor (Chalamet), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Song
